Two of Don
Here are two drawings I did of Don last fall. I'm not sure that I love either one. I think the lighter is a little too loose, and in the second I got lost in the shading and didnt pay attention to his anatomy. Oh well...live and learn.
The title of the blog is in reference to my medium of choice : Pitt pastel #188; which most closely simulates the red chalk used by Renaissance artists such as Raphael, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Michelangelo.
Authentic red chalk was mined out of existence in the late 1700s, and a synthetic version was created by Nicholas Jaques Conte'. I personally find Conte' crayons to be too dull and oily, and the color to be more brown than red.
I also use standard pencil & charcoal for drawings. Most of my figure drawings are male, and at present the drawings on these pages represent more exercise than 'art'.
